There is a wonderful, long-held tradition during the Holidays to give gifts to friends, loved ones, and family members. We spend long hours in line and online trying to procure just the right gift.
Searching high and low for the perfect deals to buy just the right thing. There is almost an indescribable feeling when you finally have bought the perfect present for someone. The one item they didn’t think anyone would remember, but you did! The one gift that came from the heart. Then comes the exciting anticipation you feel as you watch them tear open the gift. When giving becomes better than receiving. Do you know that feeling?
Is the paragraph above describing a foreign concept to you? In the hectic rustle and bustle of buying gifts, have you forgotten other gifts? The gift of family. The gift of sharing memories. The gift of enjoying good food with good company. The gift of reflection and remembering the year 2025.
Do these gifts seem so far away from where you are right now? Has there been nothing but strife in your family, with your friends, and in your life? Have you been struggling all year with your eating disorder? The binge eating. The compulsive, intrusive thoughts of constantly needing to exercise. Counting calories and trying diets. Never feeling satisfied with the number on the scale or with the person you see in the mirror?
Having poor body image? What else has the eating disorder taken from you? Is it possible that the right gift for you is the gift of recovering from an eating disorder?

Is it possible?
Does the list above sound too good to be true? Too far to be even possible? It doesn’t have to be. Is recovery possible? You can make recovery your reality. Who says so? YOU can. You can be the one who says so. Truthfully, you are the only one that can give yourself the gift of recovery.
No one else can do it for you. Yes, others can help you get there, such as a therapist or a specialist, but it is YOU that has to choose recovery today. It is YOU that has to keep choosing recovery every day after. You can give yourself and you can give your body the gift of recovery, but it has to come from the heart. This Holiday season can be the turning point for you, for your body, and for the rest of your life.
